The Berlin Wall

After World War 2 the city of Berlin, was split into four sections. The American, and French side, and the Russian side. At first the only “wall” was a small barbed wire fence. In the year 1961 the wall began to be constructed by East-German troops. This wall later became known as : the Berlin wall.

On Saturday, 12 August 1961 the leaders of Eastern Germany met together to plan out the building of the wall. The next day the border was closed, and construction began. They tore up the streets that were the border for the two different areas. Construction had begun.

The wall was 87 miles long, and another fence was built parallel to it soon after.
Families were split, people lost their jobs on the other sides of the wall.
